And in the foreground - that must be Ed.
One Sunday morning in Victoria, I was really regretting having to go to work to start my 6 day work week by heading out to Langford.
I procrastinated and caught a late 12:00 noon bus.
On the bus I thought 'Damn, I don't want to go to work.'
I got off the bus at the mall and started walking up the hill, thinking 'Damn, I don't want to go to work.'
I saw a big rock, big enough to sit on, so I thought 'Damn, I don't want to go to work.' and sat on that rock.
Sitting on the rock I thought 'Damn, I don't want to go to work. I'll go back to the mall, grab a coffee, sit down and draw.'
I did that.
And in mere minutes a few people asked if they could join me and I made two new friends.
I then went to work.
A quick sketch, done while waiting for the bus I think, quickly going for the old-illustration 'woodcut' style, the kind you would find in Alice in Wonderland.
I usually strive for some sense of 'character' in my sketches, and if I capture that, I consider it a successful sketch.

If pigs could wear old suits and hats, and they could think, and they thought 'Eureka!' I do believe this is what it could look like.

An old art project from grade 10 I think.
It shows that back then, my strengths were in perspective and inappropriate subject matter.
Well, careers have been built on less.
For my mark, I got 40 out of 45 and the comment "Fun to look at!"
Pretty good.

I don't remember when, but at one point in my life I started the habit of putting some sort of 'title page' or 'message' in the front page of my sketch books.
I was in a buggy mood at the time.
